10/27/1947Indian Governments accepts King of Jammu and Kashmir Maharaja Harisingh's accession merging Jammu and Kashmir in India and sends its troops. Accession of Jammu and Kashmir was then officially announced. No. 12 Sqn was to initiate the remarkable feat of air-lifting the first Sikhs from Palam onto the rough and dusty Srinagar airstrip without planning or reconnaissance as the initial Indian response to the sizeable insurgent forces that were pouring across the border into Jammu and Kashmir.
4/7/1935Shankar Abaji Bhise, famous Indian scientist, died.
12/10/1857Veer Narayan Singh organised a small group and had an encounter with British army. He was charged treason and sentenced to death. He was executed publicly.
1/21/1922V. Rajagopal, cricket test umpire for 1 test in 1969-70, was born in Mumbai.

10/29/1964Priceless and irreplaceable gems, including the famed 'Star of India' of 563.35 carats and 2.5 inches in diameter, were stolen from the American Museum of Natural History, New York, USA, in a daring burglary. An alarm system was discontinued years ago as was the all-night guard in the gem hall, both for reasons of economy. The jewels were uninsured due to high-priced premiums. There were other jewels too that were also robbed during this time.
