In this session, Congress was split into two groups named 'Extremists' under the leadership of Lala Lajpat Rai and 'Moderates' under the leadership of Dr. Rashbehari Bose. Sir Pherozeshah Mehta took active part on the moderate side. Anand Bazar reported with headings as ""The 23rd National Congress. Presidential Election. Tilak's Amendment. Uproarious Proceedings. Free Fight. Police Aid. Pandal Cleared. Police Escort Tilak. Adjourned Sine Die"".
1/16/1901	Mahadeo Govind Ranade, eminent social worker and thinker, passed away.
7/10/1927	Ganga Ram, great social reformer and founder of Ganga Ram Hospital in New Delhi, died in England while functioning as an active member of the Royal Commission on Agriculture. He was against dowry and child marriages and advocated widow re-marriage and also established institutions for vocational education and education for adults.
