Historical Event on 1/4/1931

Maulana Mohammad Ali Jauhar, great orator, eminent journalist, fighter and one of the founders of Jamia Millia Islamia, died at London during the first Round Table Conference. He was closely associated to Mahatma Gandhi and took active part in Civil Disobedience Movement.

3/10/1940Banwarilal Bhagwandas Purohit, famous leader of Vidarbha, was born.
4/6/1930Mahatma Gandhi picked up a lump of natural salt for breaking the 'Salt Law'. He was arrested at Dandi. This movement gathered strength and within a month about one lakh people were sent to jail. This violation of Salt Law was the second great step in India's Freedom Movement.
11/5/1961Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru arrived in New York. This was the first ocassion when an Indian Prime Minister went to United States.
12/20/2000The Government accepts the Eleventh Finance Commission recommendation to extend grants to all the States from the Incentive Fund.
7/27/1994Parliament votes to ban tests for determining the sex of an unborn child, as these tests have resulted in thousands of aborted female fetuses.
3/12/1988After 58 years in the commemoration of Dandi March, Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi performed the 32 kms Dandi March from Sabarmati Ashram.
