Under the leadership of Commander M. S. Kohli, Indian Trackers concurred Mount Everest. Captain A. S. Chima and Sherpa Nawang Gombu were the first to reach the summit.

8/11/1984A cloud of toxic chemicals escaped from a Union Carbide plant near Charleston, West Virginia, this morning, and at least 135 residents were treated for eye, throat, and lung irritation. Last December, methyl isocyanate gas escaped from a Union Carbide plant in India, killing 2,000 people. No MIC escaped today, plant officials said. Aldicarb oxime, a much less toxic gas, is declared as one constituent of the gas cloud.
8/6/1920Film Censor Board at Bombay started working. The first film censored and granted a Censor Certificate No. 1 was a short film of 600 ft., produced by Gaumont Company and it was titled as 'Gaumont Graphic No. 963-964'. The Regional Film Censor Boards were also set-up in Calcutta, Madras and Rangoon.

2/4/1974Satyendra Nath Bose, a noted mathematician, professor and physicist, passed away at Calcutta. He contributed greatly to statictical mechanics, the electromagnetic properties of ionosphere, the therories of X-ray crystallography and thermoluminescence, and unified field theory. Bose instituted ""Planck's Law and the Hypothesis of Light Quana"" in 1924.
